AUGUST 2011
UPDATE
On July 28, 2011, the Amerige
Heights Board of Directors presented a plan to the community
to bring a community center, tennis courts and green space
to the vacant property at Hughes Drive and Begovich (east of
the fountains). The Board wishes to thank the many
residents who attended the informational meeting.
Before construction of
Amerige Heights began over a decade ago, the master
developer worked closely with local officials and residents
to shape the vision of this new community. In a nod to
local history, it was named after brothers Edward and George
Amerige, who founded the City of Fullerton in 1887.
Formerly the site of a Hughes Aircraft Company defense
research and development facility, this property was
transformed into the walkable, award-winning community that
we today call home.
As your Board, we are very
proud about the opportunity to bring new community features
that will benefit all of us. Several opportunities have
come together to allow working with the City and the
developer to build out the vacant property at Hughes and
Begovich. The park concept developed as a result of earlier
community meetings that involved residents has been modified
– with respect to our still-challenging economy – and is in
motion. The benefits of the new project include:
A neighborhood clubhouse consisting of a
1,200 square-foot community room, a 429 square-foot
veranda, a small kitchen, storage space and interior
restroom
Three tennis courts
A new park play area
A commemorative display wall recognizing
prominent Fullerton individuals
City staff and the local
developer of the proposed new
neighborhood in Amerige Heights are working together on the
plans for these new facilities.

Fullerton Overnight
Parking Regulation
UPDATE - September, 2005
The City of Fullerton has begun to
enforce their
Overnight
Parking Ordinance
within the Amerige Heights Community. City law prohibits the
parking of vehicles on public streets from 2 - 5 a.m. Amerige
Heights is a mix of public and private streets. This ordinance
applies only to PUBLIC streets.
The community has
expressed concerns to the City for many months regarding excessive
vehicle speeds, suspicious activities/persons and illegal
parking. In fact, at the August 30th Homeowner Forum the public
street overnight parking issue was raised during the Police
Department presentation regarding Neighborhood Watch.
These concerns,
combined with the population growth of the Northwest side of the
community has caused the Police Department to create another
policing "zone" in Fullerton. This added zone creates a
patrol/enforcement emphasis in our section of Fullerton.
A new emphasis on
patrolling can also create a need to enforce existing laws. The
Overnight Parking Ordinance was created as a tool to help deter
crime by making it easier for police to watch for problems as they
patrol neighborhoods. The ordinance also helps protect the
appearance of neighborhoods by discouraging parking of inoperative
cars on streets.
The Amerige Heights Community is
NOT eligible for exemption of the overnight parking restriction.

Traffic Circles |
|
|
 |
A unique aspect of
Amerige Heights that we tend to take for granted is the traffic
circle.
Did
you quickly recall who had the right-of-way when you first
approached the circle? Did it seem a bit out of place?
After navigating the circle a few times you probably began to
realize what a clever traffic control device it really is.
Please be patient with visitors to the community who may be
unaccustomed to them.

January 2006
The newest addition
to Fullerton’s park system is the 10.8-acre Bastanchury Park,
located at Bastanchury Road and Malvern Avenue. The park, which
cost approximately $6 million to develop, features two lighted
softball fields, one lighted soccer field, a lighted full-court
basketball court, a children’s playground (pictured here),
concession stand, restrooms, and a multi-purpose trail system.
Construction of the facility, which has parking spaces for 100
vehicles, was funded for the City by the LSF II, developers of
the Amerige Heights residential development. This brings the
total of City parks to more than 50.

Builders |
|
|
 |
The neighborhoods in
Amerige Heights are inspired by the architectural styles of
historic Fullerton and are designed to evoke both a feeling of the
past and the future. Among their hospitable features are wide
front porches and balconies, along with side or rear-entry garages
that help to create a more gracious, inviting street scene.
The diversity of architecture provides this community with a sense
of timelessness. You can select from homes by award-winning
architects and some of the nation's top builders in styles that
include American Farmhouse, Traditional, Cape Cod/Shingle,
Craftsman, French Country, Prairie, and Spanish Colonial.

STARBUCK STREET LANDSCAPE CHANGES
Over the past year you may have
noticed that many of the Chinese Elm trees along Starbuck Street
have died. The Association began working many month's ago
with an Arborist in conjunction with our Landscape vendor, Park
West to determine the cause.

Our Arborist determined that
excess water, in combination with a hard clay soil that does not
allow proper drainage, is the culprit.
In order to save the remaining
trees, water application must be eliminated at the base of the
trees. In order to accomplish this, turf is being removed
from beneath each tree, and turf irrigation is being directed
away from the trees.

We are hopeful that this will
save the remaining Chinese Elm trees. Our landscaper will
be monitoring the project and will make adjustments as needed.
The Chinese Elm trees on
Starbuck Street were the first trees planted in Amerige Heights.
In fact, they were in the ground before construction began on
the first homes in the community. The trees have many
years of growth, and the Board feels that it is important to
make an effort to save them. The last option would be to
remove the trees and re-plant with a species that is more water
and poor drainage tolerant.
